Premise

As a result of the processes of European integration, European lawyers, policy-makers and managers need to be internationally oriented and culturally open in order to support the political, social and economic improvement of the European Institutions. The Master in “Careers with the European Union” brings together participants from all over the Europe to prepare them for a winning professional future in EU institutions, national governments, politics, companies and NGOs. This Master is designed to provide students with an in-depth knowledge of EU institutions and policies, as well as to make them familiar with European funding programmes. To this end, a thorough academic section is

combined with both hands-on practical work on European projects and job-oriented meetings. At the end of the course, participants will be able writing and managing European project, as well as starting their career in advocacy. Moreover, they will have had the opportunity to be introduced to different EU affairs professionals, operating either in Italy or abroad.

 

Aims

The Master in “Careers with the European Union” (MACEU) is a one-year, practice-oriented programme that aims to prepare talented graduates to kick-start their international careers. The Programme merges academic rigor with practical relevance to offer students a unique learning experience. Through interactive lectures, live case discussions, field projects and group work, the Master equips students with frameworks, tools and techniques to build the skill set required for having the opportunity to make a difference for the European Union

Admission requirements

The Master in “Careers with the European Union” welcomes international recent graduates from a variety of study disciplines and cultural backgrounds. This ranges from those with no professional experience looking for a degree programme that acts as bridge to the real world as well as candidates with up to two years of professional background who seek in-depth knowledge of how theory applies to the real world.

A proven fluency in English (the instruction language) is required.

Course Structure

  • 360 hours of lectures
  • 500 hours of individual study
  • 200 hours of tests, conferences, labs, etc.
  • 100 hours of project work
  • 340 hours of internship

TOTAL: 1500 HOURS

Program

The University Master has 18 modules:

MODULE 1 – EU Institutions and Policies

In the heart of Milan the first module will base the pillars of EU organisation and legislation:

  • History of European Integration
  • The EU Institutions
  • EU law and related decision making process
  • The EU budget
  • EU Affairs and lobby: the role of regulatory and consultancy agencies
  • International strategy: the role of the EU in the world

 

MODULE 2 – European Policies and Socio-Economic Horizons

In this module participants will learn the fundamentals and uniqueness of EU policy-making and socio-economic development processes, through a case-based methodology and several guest speakers (political-scientists, sociologists, economist, managers with previous experiences in the EU context). All the courses have a deep focus on policies and socio-economic development:

  • Integration and Governance
  • The EU Internal market
  • The European Green Deal
  • Political economy of the EU
  • Neighborhood policies European indirect funds and related mechanism
  • European direct funds and related mechanisms (Horizon Europe, Space and Defense, Agricultural project,
  • Erasmus +.

 

MODULE 3 – Project Writing and Management

During the third modules participants will have the occasion to analyse the basis to write and managing a European project, starting from analysing a concept note to building thee budget and related activities. Moreover, participants will have the occasion to analyse the principles related to the implementation phase of a European project

  • The Project Cycle Management
  • Analysing idea: building a feasibility study
  • Creating the proposal: how to write a competitive project
  • The funding and tender portal: what it is and how to use it
  • Managing a European project
  • Financial Statement

 

MODULE 4 – A week at European Institutions (Brussels, not compulsory)

According to the modalities agreed below, a week is foreseen at the European Institutions, to deepen the knowledge of the European realities, of the Institutions and of the working methods.

 

MODULE 5 – Internship Programme

The internship program lasts from 3 months.

The candidate will be introduced to his Tutor in Italy, who will follow him during the internship program.

Events and networking activities will be promoted to enrich the experience, in order to meet other young international professionals.

 

MODULE 6 – Project Work and Final Dissertation

At the end of the program, participants are asked to describe their internship experience in the final project work that would be the object of the final dissertation.

This stage is the final step to obtain a Master Degree in “Careers with the European Union”, corresponding to 60 CFU, according to the Italian Ministry of Education.

Participants take an examination at the end of each subunit. Examinations are in the form of oral or written exams (i.e. sets of questions, exercises, multiple-choice).

Evaluation is made by the lecturers of the course.

At the end of the course, participants have to pass a final comprehensive oral exam before an Examination Board

 

This University Master provides students with 60 ECTS credits.

Attendance is compulsory for at least 70% of total class hours

Price and incentives

Price: € 8000

– There is a 10% reduction for LUM University’s graduates

– The University Master can be funded with Regione Puglia’s scholarship program “Pass Laureati”

– There is an arrangement between Lum School of Management and Deutsche Bank to finance the registration fee for the University Master.
